Documents, however detailed, do not tell the full story of defence electronics. Oral histories - the stories of people who were there - both fill in the gaps and illuminate the facts with personal reminiscence. DEHS has already contributed to the Imperial War Museum's collection over a hundred oral interviews, collected by CHiDE, of people concerned with defence electronics, whether scientists, engineers, technicians or operators. We are now seeking those who have not yet told their stories to add to this collection. in particular, DEHS is assisting the Bawdsey Radar Group in its endeavour to interview those who worked at, or were associated with, Bawdsey, the birthplace of much of British radar.
If you have a story to tell about your experiences of defence electronics, don't keep it to yourself! Please contact our Oral Historian Phil Judkins , who will tell you more about our oral history work and how your story will help; he will also arrange for you to be visited by one of our interviewers.
If you would like to join our Oral History Interviewers Team, and you feel you can help people set out their recollections for the benefit of future researchers (we are looking for interviewers, not inquisitors!) then please let Phil Judkins know, and help DEHS answer the challenge of collecting this information before it is lost forever.
